Comprehensive Medical Camp Programme (Northern Kenya)

Doctors for Hope in collaboration with GENCAD, local communities and partner organizations have conducted in 2009 a free comprehensive medical outreach Camp in three districts; Isiolo, Wajir and Takaba. The services provided included following:
1. Free medical consultation,
2. Malnutrition (MUAC) screening
3. Vitamin A campaign
4. Deworming exercise
5. Free medicine and immunization,
6. Free eye screening and cataract operations.
7. Dental health care

Due to the successful delivery of the outreach programme, we aim to conduct similar camps in other districts in the region. The entire Northern Kenya region’s health facilities lack the capacity to attend to various needs of the population. The region is vast and the level of poverty is higher than the rest of the country. Thousands of residents in the region live in the rural areas where health facilities are inadequate, inaccessible and unaffordable.  The problems faced by the nomadic section of the community are far more acute than the population in towns and villages where some semblance of health services is available.
